Hard Truths About Transition/Change Learned From Military Service

  • Transition/Change is a journey and it's not easy, no matter who you are.

  • Whatever the reason for transition/change (voluntary or not), mind-set is a big factor in how to identify where you are, where you want to go, and what you do to get there.

  • Transition/Change is often an individual journey where you may or may not be well-equipped to understand yourself, your destination, and/or action steps to get there.

  • An effective action plan requires the following:

  1. understanding your current situation and resources,
  2. acknowledging gaps for achieving desired outcomes,
  3. equipping or aligning yourself with the assets necessary to progress on goals,
  4. committing to execute the actions in the plan, and
  5. staying accountable to yourself, team, and organization to realize the vision.
